Festival for Playful Public Spaces

Tabletop Resistance

Tapletop Resistance is a work in progress project that tries to apply game design and simulation principles to document, model and make playable social occupation and possibly civil resistance events. The goal of the project is to develop and apply design methods to make sense of events such as Occupy Gezi, the Taiwanese Sunflower Movement or Occupy Wall Street and identify the forces and structures at work. By modelling these events as a game, we want to provide an alternative approach to documentation, agency, discussion, development and reasoning about these and other similar events.

We are hoping to gather criticism and discussion from playtesting and presenting our methods and reasoning to other game designers and the playing public. The game, methods and resources will be openly available under a Creative Commons CC-BY-SA license

Can social movements be modelled as a board game?
